On Saturday Leah and I went to the 32nd annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade. There were lots of butts, boobs and de Blasios. I'll keep it SFW here, but if you want to see more skin, just google the parade.

The Staten Island Ferry is some of the best free entertainment you'll find in New York. It's a one hour round trip from Lower Manhattan to Staten Island and back. The ferry is free, and so are the sea breezes, the panoramic views of the Financial District, Jersey City, Governor's Island and the Verrazano Bridge. Not a bad way to spend a lunch break.
On Saturday I had the pleasure of taking some pre-prom portraits for Khyla, Dylan, Alex and Nicky in Central Park's amazing Conservatory Garden. Beautiful weather, amazing light, a stunning location and gorgeous people - you all made my job easy. I hope you had a blast at your prom and that these photos help you remember the day fondly. Congratulations on your graduation this week!
As of this morning, New York is having its 8th snowiest winer on record (54 inches). This storm that swept through town on Wednesday gave us about eight more inches of the white stuff. Here are some shots from the morning commute to work.

Last Sunday was the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade. We grabbed a spot along Eldridge Street and waited for the action. Here are some of the better shots from the day. All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s and XPro 1.

Last week, New York City got hit with 8 to 12 inches of snow, wind chills that dipped into the single digits and the kind of blizzard-like conditions that meteorologists fantasize about all year long.
I took the long way home through Greenwich Village to get some shots of the winter wonderland before it was ruined by rock salt and taxis and black, cruddy snow. I almost got frostbite in my shutter-pushing finger. But I also got these photos of a pretty magical night in New York. So it may have been worth losing the digit. I'm left handed anyway.

I like how the swirl of footprints leads your eye back around the photo to the silhouettes in the background. Wish I could say that was intentional. Or that I even noticed the footprints while I was there.

The nice thing about taking photos in New York is when the weather's lousy, you can still go shoot indoors.
After filling up on a great lunch at a Columbian place on the Upper East Side called Dulce Vida Cafe (try the Sancocho soup!) We spent the better part of Saturday wandering around The Met. It's amazing how little of the museum you can actually cover in 6 hours. We barely scratched the surface. Here are some photos from the visit. Click on any of them to view them in Lightbox mode. Just an hour and a half drive from New York and you can be in a totally different world. One with mountains, evergreens, the Appalachian Trail and a 250 year old country house complete with a chicken coop in the yard. Thanks to airbnb, we spent the long MLK weekend in snowy, picture perfect Hopewell Junction. Here are a few shots from the weekend.
