This year, I finally got to check off one of my New York photography bucket list items - covering the Chinese Lunar New Year Firecracker Festival. Here are my favorite photos from the Year of the Pig celebration in Chinatown.
I love the way the boy is in the light and everyone else is in the darkness.
Sometimes attention can be the subject. No two people in this shot are looking at the same thing.
I underexposed this shot to dramatize the way the gold rims of this guy’s glasses caught the reflected sunlight.
I took a bunch of perfectly in-focus images from this same angle. But this accidentally blurry one is the only photo from the series that actually feels like an explosion.
Sometimes I take a photo and realize afterwards that it’s an echo of an image I’ve loved before. In this case, the inspiration of this photo comes from this image by Jay Maisel from his book, Light, Gesture and Color
